St Helena Airport: the gorge has reached new heights!

The construction of St Helena Airport has reached new heights as the gorge being raised to carry parts of the runway has hit a new milestone. After a staggering 67,730 truckloads of earth, the gorge which currently stands at 235m above sea level, is roughly 25% completed. The construction team have done an excellent job so far, working a total of 61 dayshifts and 54 nightshifts, trucks having travelled a whopping accumulated 206,250 miles.

Excavation for the terminal and combined building is 80% completed and construction will commence in August 2013. The pictures below show the latest steps in the development. St Helena Airport is due to be completed in 2016.
