Napoleonic Sites

Make sure you visit the French-owned Napoleonic properties of Longwood House, The Briars Pavilion, and the The Tomb in Sane Valley.  It is your chance to view some of the most exclusive Napoleonic locations and artefacts in the world. You will be issued with an appropriate ticket at either the Briar’s Pavillion or Longwood House.

There are fixed times for the tours, Monday to Friday, as follows:

Longwood House                                          11:00 am – 1:00 pm


The Tomb                                                       9:00 am – 3:00 pm

The Briars Pavilion is only open on Wednesday and Friday at 10:00 am – 11:00 am.

Tickets to visit Longwood House and Napoleon’s Tomb costs £10. Briars Pavilion is a separate entry fee of £5. Tickets can be purchased at Longwood House and at the Briars Pavilion.

Please note that the Briars Pavilion comprises of one room only, and that flash and video photography is not permitted at the Briar’s Pavilion or Longwood House.

On 5 May 1821, Napoleon passed away at Longwood House and buried in Sane Valley on 9 May 1821. To commemorate this occasion, a Moment de Memoire is attended by islanders at his Tomb on, or near the 5 May each year.
